Petition to
POA Board "POA/ACC"

Why this petition matters

Started by Cheryl Peyton

The ACC Blue Book has defined "signs" as "any identification, description, illustration, or device which is visible from any public place or, if located on private property, is exposed to the public, and which directs attention to a product, service, place, activity, person, institution, business, or solicitation." This definition would include political flags and banners. The signs that are allowed following this definition do not include political flags and banners.

When it was pointed out to the ACC and the POA Board that the definition of signs section prohibits political flags and banners, the ACC, in their last meeting, marked this definition for deletion. According to procedure, any request for revisions of the Blue Book must be voted on by the POA Board. The vote on this issue will be taken at their next meeting scheduled for February 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the Yacht Club.

The current definition of signs (up for deletion) protects all homeowners in Tellico Village from being subjected to political messages that destroy the ACC's own mission of preserving "the ambience and character of its neighborhoods" as stated in their Blue Book. Without restrictions, these flags could contain crude language or hateful slogans, without even setting limits their number, size, and locations.

It is imperative that the POA retain the present definition of signs in order to prohibit political flags and banners and encourage us all to be good neighbors in our community.
