Scrap Character Certificate in all educational institutions

Providing Character Certificate during admission process is mandatory in all educational institutions in India. But this is a practice of the Colonial time, which holds no relevance in today's time. Such practices are a feature of a police state or a dictatorship form of government. This is an undemocratic practice. A Character certificate issued by any educational institution or a gazetted officer is taken as a proof of "good character" of the applicant and it's presentation is mandatory whatever marks or qualifications the applicant holds. The value of the 85%, 90% and even 95% and more marks and other academic and non-academic achievements becomes nil if the character certificate is not presented. Every year several students after completion of the +2 level of study face this problem while seeking admission in graduation courses in Delhi University and other state and central universities. This also becomes problematic for the students who pursue further studies taking a gap of a year or two as the character certificate to be presented needs to be recent. In such cases, the educational institutions demand a character certificate issued by any gazetted officer, which is absolutely insane as how can any random person whom I met a few minutes ago, define my character. A few lines stated by an officer become the parameter on which I seek admission. So, this practice needs to be abandoned in the same manner as the attestation of documents by a gazetted officer and presentation of affidavits was scrapped. Sign the petition and support the cause.
