I went to costa coffee situated in TGIP mall, noida, today and ordered a large frostino and some iced tea. I was surprised to see that they were still using plastic caps and straws! Plastic pollution is such a huge problem for the whole world! Not only that, but retailers and shop keepers widely use plastic bags to put the stuff which customers buy from them!

There are so many problems that plastic has created for us! Since, a lot of single use plastic items are not recycled, they end up either in the oceans affecting marine life and humans obviously because we consume fish which eat the plastic we throw away! A lot of plastic also ends up into landfills! Burning of plastic produces poisonous gases which we breathe everyday!

Plastic spoils our land, oceans and air! And we are just adding to the problem! Up to 80 percent of ocean plastic pollution enters the ocean from land. At least 267 different species have been affected by plastic pollution in the ocean. 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. One in three leatherback sea turtles have been found with plastic in their stomachs.

the National Green Tribunal of our country has banned plastic which is thinner than 50 microns but other plastic items are widely being used! As a matter of fact, this is the only law we have in place in our country to keep a check on plastic pollution and that is also largely ineffective because of its non implementation. We, the awakened citizens of this country have to pressurise the government to ban single use plastic! Plastic is largely non biodegradable. It takes 200 years for plastic to partially degrade! Plastic problem is estimated to be a bigger problem than nuclear weapons!

We urge the government of India to ban single use plastic (such as plastic cutlery, plastic bags, plastic straws, etc) and introduce effective alternatives to it! If the government truly wishes for human race to survive and if it truly wants us to cohabit with our Mother Nature, then it must ban single use plastic! It is imperative for our survival on this planet!
