Refund a Hospitalized Student's Tuition

A stabbing has left my son fighting for his life and we need his university to refund his tuition to help pay his medical bills.

My son Anthony is a junior at Plymouth State University. Before last St. Patrick’s day weekend he was just one year away from graduating and becoming a teacher. But on the evening of March 15th he was brutally attacked by a young man and subsequently hospitalized. He is still in the ICU. The injuries were so severe that he will have to go through daily speech and motor function therapy and won’t be able to go back to school this semester. We have asked the University to return Anthony’s tuition this semester so that we can put it towards his recovery but they have refused because he missed the “drop out date”.

Please join me and ask Plymouth State to have compassion and return Anthony’s tuition so we can use it to help pay his medical bills.

My son has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Healthcare is not cheap, and our family will need all the money we can get to help pay for his medical bills that could potentially break us. If my son hadn’t been stabbed he would still be on his way to reaching his goal, but an unfortunate event has put his dreams on hold. My son shouldn’t be punished for the actions of one sick individual and our family shouldn’t be forced to go into our retirement to help our son get back on his feet.

I understand the purpose of this policy but the school should also be understanding in special circumstances like this. Anthony would rather be anywhere else besides a hospital bed but unfortunately that is the situation he is in.

Please keep our family from financial ruin and help my son on his road to recovery. Tell Dean Frank Furlone and the rest of Plymouth State to show compassion and return my son’s tuition this semester.
