With taxes being raised all of the time, it can seriously affect the smaller cogs in our infrastructure. Undeniably there are some big business chains with storefronts worldwide who are honest and others (without pointing any fingers) whom perhaps do not pay as much tax as they should. Unfortunately, on the opposite side of the spectrum, there are some small businesses who are absolutely honest and provide an amazing and personal service but are disappearing more and more as our lives become more streamlined and technology-reliant (this is a trend dating back to the industrial revolution thanks to the rise of machines; see here.) These small businesses are the ones that we want to see stay!
How can we hope to protect our local businesses and avoid ourselves from being completely dominated by huge corporations, when the taxes they must pay to keep their store open are only rising? It is such a shame to see family businesses, that have been a part of the lives for many of the locals, have to close down simply because the tax was raised. It is only enabling worldwide corporations to continue to grow, lining the pockets of the rich, and leaves limited opportunity for new business ventures.
In summary, I propose that we rethink the way tax is handled to make it much more fair on small businesses. #Justice4Less.
