The Barbican Community has been rocked my the news of a large chain bakery potentially coming the Barbican.
This Chain are wanting to change the use of one of our beautiful historical buildings and fill it with noisy industrial machinery. This is not only damaging to the building but also to the environment surrounding. The constant deliveries of frozen food will also create more traffic problems we all know is already an issue. Also with our ongoing bin issue on the Barbican, where will theirs go?!
The Barbican is full of independent business and a large chain would be detrimental to the longevity of keeping this area a publicly owned place for the public.
With all that in mind, the addition of this large bakery will have a detrimental effect on our independent businesses in the area and could see a few of them close down. It has already been a struggle to survive the past 2 years because of Covid, but now they will be fighting for customers and loosing all their business because the bakery are also asking for inside and outside seating. 

By signing this petition, you OBJECT the change of use for the premises, we want to keep it retail. 

Our community would like to see something stepping away from food which is already heavily present on the Barbican.
