Ending chronic homelessness might sound impossible, but it isn’t. In fact, for the past several months, a nationwide trend has been emerging: communities across the country are making real progress on their goals to get chronically homeless individuals into housing.
Here in D.C., we’re also seeing progress. But with an estimated 1,764 individuals still living in chronic homelessness, we know that serious work lies ahead.
That’s why in our 30th year, Miriam’s Kitchen is doing more than ever. In fact, we’ve seen a 40% increase in our meals served since we first started our dinner program. And we’re providing more intensive case management services to our guests – including a 20% increase in case management services each year for the past three years.
Meanwhile, we’re working to change the system, advocating for proven, cost-effective programs such as Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid-Rehousing – models that can work in D.C.
We know that homelessness is a community crisis that demands a community response. And that means that our best chance for success is if the entire community is involved.
As Miriam’s Kitchen reaches our 30-year milestone of service, we are asking you to join us in pledging to help end chronic homelessness in Washington, D.C.
