Establish a Dog-Friendly Zone in the Town of Chevy Chase

We the dogs of the Town of Chevy Chase (and our friends and guardians) want a place to run off-leash and socialize with each other.

We ask the Town to help us explore options for establishing a safe, fenced-in area where we can play off-leash.
Being that a large number of dogs* reside in the Town of Chevy Chase, and currently there is no area for dogs to exercise, play and socialize off-leash, we would like to establish a fenced in, park area where canines can exercise and socialize off-leash in a clean, safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property, or wildlife.

Many dogs need exercise above and beyond what their humans can provide on-leash; furthermore, many Town dog owners do not have a yard where their dogs can spend time outside, and leashes greatly limit the dog’s space and pace. Being off-leash, socializing with other dogs, and the human-to-human companionship improves canine and human interactions. Dogs (and their humans) that are well socialized are friendlier, better behaved, and healthier.

This park would help satisfy the needs of Town resident dog-owners and non-dog owners alike. It would allow families with dogs to spend more quality time with their pets. It would also increase opportunities for Town residents to interact with their neighbors and help create a sense of community.

Please help us create a space that allows our residents to exercise their canine family members and themselves—as well as benefit the community as a whole!
