Publius Sensum Communem started this petition to President Donald J. Trump and

Dear President Donald J. Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator  Marco Rubio, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi,

To paraphrase Mr. Paine, These are the times that try Hong Konger's souls.

A sizable segment of Hong Kong is calling on the U.S. to be the example, warts and all, it has been over 243 years as a beacon of freedom that cherishes and upholds the values of universal fundamental rights.

Please pass posthaste The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019.

Cui Bono?

Support those in Hong Kong who support democratic ideals/practices and have been fighting against their erosion over the summer.

Support those in Hong Kong who are asking why their rights that are law, Fundamental Rights Clause of Hong Kong Basic Law, are under duress.

Passage of the Act will encourage and provide some sustenance for those who are calling on the United States for moral and actionable support by passing this act.

In addition, please call out the Hong Kong Police Force for the following:

Restricting freedom of movement of the public when permits aren't required.

Their indiscriminate targeting and assault of teens and school children.

Their restricting of freedom of speech by denying access of journalists.

When will a truly independent inquiry into heinous police misconduct convene?

It is needed to address the violent random arrests, and brutal, possibly murderous, actions against the public that haven't been fully and publicly addressed to date.

Why were justices of the peace recently denied entry to San Uk Ling Holding Center where it's rumored gang rapes of female detainees have taken place? What is the current mental and physical condition of these women?

What is the current physical and psychological condition of others who have been detained and their whereabouts? What medical treatment have they received and have their loved ones been able to contact them?

When will true Universal Suffrage return to Hong Kong to address the loss of moral authority of the Executive Council to lead?

Passing this rebuke will be a loud call of support to those in Hong Kong who want their basic legal rights upheld and a stop to the madness that has become their new normal.

Please don't let freedom down,

Publius
