THERE IS A REQUEST FOR DONATIONS AFTER YOU SIGN THE PETITION - PLEASE DISREGARD
After approximately 30 years of helping and housing people with both visual impairment and developmental disabilities, the board of director's for Ottawa's non-profit agency TELCI has passed a motion to close the homes.
Many of TELCI’s residents have lived together for decades, they’ve become family, and TELCI is their home. This is the only organization of its kind in Eastern Ontario. The residents have benefited with enhanced self-reliance and social opportunities and we owe it to them to do everything we can to preserve their homes and keep their families intact.

As you are aware, Ottawa’s TELCI faces the distinct possibility of closure. We are certain that you can help. Many of TELCI’s residents have lived together for decades, they've become family, and TELCI is their home. This is the only organization of its kind in Eastern Ontario. TELCI has been wonderful for the residents in helping to enhance their self-reliance and social opportunities and we owe it to them to do everything we can to preserve their homes and keep their family intact.
We ask that you re-evaluate the funding for organizations such as this. We believe a more balanced distribution of funds would allow TELCI to continue to provide this crucial service to people who truly need it.
To really put this into perspective, it’s important to know what might happen to the residents if the choice is made to close TELCI:
•They will no longer benefit from specialized combination care from staff that are trained to support individuals with BOTH visual impairments and developmental disabilities.
•They will no longer be a part of a community to which they have built strong ties over the past 30 or 40 years.
•They will likely be placed into residential situations where they are vulnerable emotionally, mentally, and physically.
•Many are medically and emotionally frail and are likely to withdraw or become depressed.
•The breakup of what have become family units may trigger potentially damaging anxiety based behaviours.
TELCI has changed the lives of these residents in many positive ways. We must do what is necessary to continue that vital work and we need your support. Again, we ask that you review funding options and keep TELCI open.
