Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, is the worst possible choice for President Barack Obama to nominate as an ambassador to either the United Kingdom or France.

Wintour has endorsed the egregiously cruel fur industry for decades. Wintour shamelessly promotes fur in every issue of Vogue and she often insists that the young designers she mentors use fur. Anna Wintour is directly responsible for the killing of millions of animals. Each year over 50 million animals, including millions of dogs and cats, are killed for their fur worldwide.

Wintour also has a notoriously noxious personality. She is known to be such a tyrant that her nickname is “Nuclear Wintour.” The main character in The Devil Wears Prada is based on her. Many of Wintour’s former staffers agree that the Cruella de Vil-esque character is pretty close to Wintour herself.

Anna Wintour’s lack of compassion and open support of animal cruelty make her a particularly poor choice to represent Americans in either the United Kingdom or France. All three of these countries are nations of animal lovers. Please ask the President to drop Wintour from the list of possible ambassadors.

Letter to
President Barack Obama
Please do not nominate Anna Wintour as an ambassador to either the United Kingdom or France. Wintour lacks empathy and compassion. These are two very important qualities for any ambassador to possess.

She has endorsed the egregiously cruel fur industry for decades. Wintour shamelessly promotes fur in every issue of Vogue and she often insists that the young designers she mentors use fur. Each year over 50 million animals, including millions of dogs and cats, are killed for their fur worldwide.

Eighty-five percent of the fur industry's skins come from animals on fur “farms”. Rabbits, foxes, mink, and other animals spend their entire short lives in tiny, filthy wire cages, until they are killed by bludgeoning, neck-breaking or anal or vaginal electrocution. The anguish and frustration of life in a cage leads animals to self-mutilate, biting at their skin, tails and feet. Many animals frantically pace and circle endlessly, and some even cannibalize their cagemates.

Trappers kill millions of raccoons, coyotes, bobcats, and other animals every year for the fur industry. Animals trapped for their fur suffer from blood loss, infection, gangrene, exposure, and starvation. Some even resort to chewing their own limbs off to escape. To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers strangle, beat or stomp them to death.

Anna Wintour’s lack of compassion and open support of animal cruelty make her a particularly awful choice to represent Americans in either the United Kingdom or France. All three of these countries are nations of animal lovers. Please exclude Wintour from your list of possible ambassadors. Ambassadors are supposed to promote goodwill, not heartlessness.
