Facts need to be accepted rather than irrational fears which drive legislation that not only does not achieve its goals but causes terrible harm on all of those in its path. The cruel and unusual punishment must stop! Resources must be used to prevent assaults, rather than provide perpetual punishments, ostracizing otherwise contributing members of society.

I'm signing because I know facts. The sex offender registry gives everyone a FALSE sense of security. Research shows that 90% of the victims of sex offenses are committed by people they know. How does the registry protect us from people we already know?? Approximately 95% of sex offenses are perpetrated by FIRST TIME offenders, NOT those on the registry. Also, in the case of children....the younger the child, the higher the percentage (99%) that the offender is a family member or a close, trusted friend of the family. Think about it. Most children under school age are under close supervision of a family member at all, or certainly MOST of the time. The number of small children abducted, molested and dumped or murdered over the past two decades can be counted on one hand, debunking 'stranger danger'.

There's not much more to say that the petition doesn't already state. Aside from being unconstitutional, not working as intended, detrimental and completely unneeded; one commenter described the registry perfectly...... "It's not justice, it's vengeful."
Get involved. Do something about it. Join NARSOL or one of it's State's affiliates, or another organization that is trying to make a change to this atrocity. Hold politicians accountable for pandering for votes with usage of the registry.

This registry is cruel and unusual punishment, not just for the accused, but for their loved ones as well. They are human beings and in the specific case I am familiar with, the alleged victim was older, and had a civil suit of 4 million in the works, soon after the arrest. The most ridicules fact yet, is that he was never accused of having intercourse; only kissing and fondling that she admits going along with.
He was railroaded by a dirty victim and dirtier officers, that were personal friends of the alleged vic.
Now, the man can't live at home (in an apartment) with his wife and 3 children, sleeps in his car in the freezing cold, and just lost maybe the 6th job in under 2 & 1/2 years the week of Christmas, all thanks to a new PO,. This is not justice! This is an embarrassment to every decent American, in my opinion! I am sincerely concerned this man may freeze in his car! The office tracks him via a monitoring device, to verify that he drive way accross town from his family, to sleep in the parking lot of a Walmart, in another county. The entire situation is insane!

There is no evidence the SO Registry has prevented any offence being committed. There is plenty of evidence it has hurt innocent people, caused breakup of families and prevented ex-offenders being rehabilitated. Because of this, it induces ex-offenders to "disappear" because the risk of being found and preosecuted is considered less than the advantages of being with their family, having a job and getting on with their lives.

For so many reasons, the sex offender registry needs a major revamping! A vast number of Americans are on the registry, and approximately twice as many Americans are hurt as a direct affiliation with someone forced to be on the registry. For an issue that impacts the lives of so many people, very little attention has been placed on effectively handling the subject.
