For the Love of Ryleigh
Hello, my name is Ryleigh Rattanakoun, I am 15 years old and I have Autism; I cannot talk, I can't properly care for myself, eg. I cant dress myself, I can't bathe myself, I cant brush my own teeth properly, i dont know how too use the toilet etc. I also don't know danger, not just for myself but for others. I love my family and I love my teachers but sometimes I have meltdowns and when I have them I become violent. I become a safety hazard; I break things, I hurt people, I pull hair, kick people, hit, scratch, and punch people, I make people scared of me, I've become too strong and too much to handle for my family, the school, and the police, because of this my teachers and family have come to the decision that they can no longer help me. But they have all found an amazing place that can provide me with the proper care. It's a place for people like me who can give me the help I need. Everything has been sorted out, all the paperwork done, all the signatures and letters signed, all of that is here and collected, but...there's a roadblock, we need 3 final signatures, they come from the capital of Vermont, the people at the State Capitolsaid to not even bother sending the paperwork because they feel we haven't used all available resources at hand...but there is none, no programs can help me because I'm too dangerous for people; and my school, family, DCF,and HCRS, recognizes that. Ever since I was professionally diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2, I have caused nothing but heartache. My sister Alexis has missed out on so many things because of my autism such as having a social life, finishing high school, and getting a job; my parents havent seen their families in a long time because I need 3 people to help care for me because I'm too dangerous now. I've held my family back from so much, I've caused them so much stress, and have become too dangerous and unsafe for them to handle me when I am mad. I want to see my family happy again and if that means that I have to go away to the proper school ,so be it.
As much as it pains us, Ryleigh's family, to basically give him up to people much more suited for him, we need to. Our health is deteriorating from stress, we get hardly any sleep because he is awake all night, none of us have a social life because his autism requires 24/7 daily care. We feel trapped in our own home. We live in fight or flight mode every single day. We have all sacrificed and lost so much; as much as it pains me too admit this, my brother has also become a danger to society, we, his own family have become scared of him. We really want Ryleigh to get what he needs for help and it is not with us; we are hoping that by making this petition it can somehow change the States mind or at least pressure them into doing the right thing. It's not about just getting a break from him, its become a safety issue for all us, we are all scared of living in our home. So please, we beg of you, please help us give Ryleigh the care that he needs and deserves, not just for him but for us, his school, and people out in society. Not everyone can be so forgiving after getting hit by a mentally challenged person. We just want Ryleigh to live a happy productive life and we feel like he can get that at the school we have chosen, please help us in getting him there.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for anyone who signs it and even shares. It means so much.
