Please help a father of 2, NZ born/Australian raised facing Deportation

My son in-law Elijah was detained on Monday the 22nd July 2019 as they cancelled his visa in February under the s116 Migration Act (Good Character) which means that the presence of the visa holder in Australia is or may be, or would or might be, a risk to the health, safety or good order of the Australian community or a segment of the Australian community.  That’s a big call against a young man who’s called Australia home for 22 plus years, has two Australian born children and has no criminal convictions.

In the midst of his relationship breaking down an incident occurred, and sadly he got charged with some rather colourful charges. As an Australian I’m extremely disappointed by the treatment of this young man from the beginning of this ordeal to the end. His court case is still pending so he hasn’t been convicted of a crime nor has he done jail time, yet he has been thrown into a detention centre awaiting his fate, all because our Government believe he maybe or might be a risk to the Australian community.

It’s heartless and cruel to rip this young man away from his family and especially his two young children who don’t understand why their dad is gone. His daughter is 7 and his son is only 8 months old.  he's is a good dad and taking him away from his babies like this is soul destroying and outright cruel.  I have known this young man since he was a teenager and he’s definitely not a risk or a threat to anyone, he would never intentionally hurt anyone.

He’s a respectful, gentle and kind human being who was raised really well by a hard working and decent family. The way I see it Australia is as much his home as it is mine, he has lived here with his family since he was four years old, he’s now in his mid 20’s and with NO criminal convictions.  Sometimes good people make bad decisions, they mess up but it doesn't mean they are bad people.

I'm pleading with you to please show this young man some compassion and allow him to stay here in Australia where he belongs and allow him to be with his children.

Thank you for your support it really means a lot

The outcome.....

I say this with a very heavy heart, today I felt ashamed to be an Australian as this is not the Australian way.  Today the 19th of August 2019 Lij was escorted out of this country like a convicted criminal.  To deport someone without the chance to clear their name in a court of law is despicable.  But apparently our Government are now Judge and Jury and this young man is just another statistic, another notch in their belt.

Feel free to keep signing this petition and let it be a voice for our Aussie children caught up in this kind of injustice.
