Dear Madam President,

In the year 2020, Nepal government closed the only Honorary Consulate in Istanbul, Turkiye. We should not forget the fact that there is no Embassy of Nepal in Turkiye and Honorary Consulate of Nepal in Istanbul was the only representative of Nepal in Turkiye.

Suddenly thousands of Nepalese had no longer a representation in Turkiye and were referred to the Embassy of Nepal in Pakistan to handle the consular services and need to travel to Pakistan or send the documents through courier to receive certain services, which is inconvenient as well as time consuming as it takes weeks even for a basic consular services.

Even after two years an honorary consulate was closed, we Nepalese in Turkiye are eagerly waiting for the re-establishment of Honorary Consulate in Turkiye. We are appealing to you to establish the Embassy of Nepal and re-establish the honorary consulate of Nepal in Turkiye.

Opening of the Embassy of Nepal and Honorary Consulate in Turkiye is an affirmation of the Nepal-Turkiye bilateral relation and giving importance to approximately 6000 Nepalese who live in Turkiye, thousands of Nepalese who visits Turkiye and Thousands of Turkish citizens who visit Nepal every year. Nepal and Turkiye are both members of the World Trade Organization and have free trade agreement. Establishment of Embassy and Honorary Consulate in Turkiye will strengthen the bilateral relation, protect the interests of the Republic of The Nepal and Nepalese in Turkiye and in consular district, including providing consular assistance and services to Nepalese citizens; promoting the Republic of The Nepal on trade, commerce, industry, investments, culture, agriculture, and tourism; reporting periodically on economic, political, social, cultural, technological, and scientific development in our jurisdiction; and representing the government of the Republic of The Nepal in local official functions and ceremonies.

There is much that can and should be done to develop trade, cultural and political ties between Nepal and Turkiye. This can best be done if Nepal has an Embassy and diplomatic mission located in Turkiye or at least honorary consulate in Turkiye and not split between other diplomatic mission.

The establishment of an Embassy and honorary consulate in Turkiye is long overdue.

We also request the government of Nepal to give importance to Nepalese studying, working and living in Turkiye by providing a proper representative.

It would be in the interest of the whole Nepalese Community in Turkiye to establish the Embassy of Nepal and re-establish the Honorary consulate of Nepal in Turkiye.

Also please mention a name of a suitable candidate for Honorary Consul who will promote and protect the interest of Republic of Nepal and Nepalese. Please consider the fact that Honorary Consul plays vital role in Visa process, Passport application and process, Marriage Registration, Birth Registration, Citizenship application, Civil Registration, Death Registration, Notary etc.

Primary reason of the closure of Honorary Consulate of Nepal in Istanbul was the fact that former Honorary Consul Prof. Dr. Fatma Gunseli Malkoc (Prof. Dr. Fatma Günseli Malkoç) retired on the account of her age. We Thank her for her outstanding service as an Honorary Consul.
