Please enforce the existing laws on illegal vacation rentals in Hawai'i.

On behalf of the people of Hawai'i and future generations, we ask you to support your friends, family and communities by supporting the enforcement of the EXISTING law on illegal transient vacation units ("TVU's"). We ask that you provide the support and resources our City needs to complete this daunting task. Illegal vacation rentals (TVU's) have caused a domino effect of problems; they have caused home prices and long term rental rates to abruptly skyrocket, falsely raised property taxes, caused hard working community leaders to be displaced, large homeless camps have emerged at our parks and beaches(as they have lost their support systems of family and friends caused by the working class displacement), home owners have lost their quality of life (due to falsely raised taxes, noise, pollution, safety concerns), it has pitted neighbor against neighbor (those running illegal mini hotels vs. those living in their homes day to day), and the list goes on. We feel the proliferation of illegal vacation rentals is the root cause of these problems. If our City could enforce the existing laws, the domino effect of problems in our neighborhoods would subside drastically. Then we as a solid community can 'take care of our own' and work to find positive solutions moving forward. Thank you for your hard work, time and efforts to build strong and harmonious communities. MAHALO! The EXISTING law: “Transient rentals (less than 30 days) of lodging that are not in areas zoned for resort use are prohibited under the Land Use Ordinance (LUO) No.86-96. New Bed & Breakfast homes are prohibited in ALL zoning districts under Ordinance No.89-154 (in effect as of Dec 1989).” -C & C of Honolulu, DEPARTMENT OF PERMITTING AND PLANNING
