From tribes’ role as America’s first governments, to modern day actors, athletes, and political leaders, Indigenous people contribute to American greatness every single day. Negative "Indian" stereotypes – especially those perpetuated by sports mascots – affect the reputation and self-image of every single Indigenous person and foster ongoing racism.

I am from Wapakoneta, OH and we are also fighting the same battle here. I am also Native American, and I do not believe these names honor my family and ancestors in any way. Keep on going, and dont give up!

Studies show that native mascots are harmful to native students, and non-native students who are encouraged to appropriate our culture.
