Playwriting Senior Showcase

Playwriting Senior Showcase
Why this petition matters
Susan Padveen and the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department want to cut one of the Playwriting Senior Showcases for next year due to “lack of time in the production calendar”. The playwriting program has 5 graduating seniors who are all submitting plays in hopes that their full length will be produced. With the elimination of one spot, a valuable experience will be taken away from a well deserved playwright. The Playwriting Senior Showcase is an essential capstone experience for us. One that student actors, directors, designers and stage managers have been an essential part of as well. Taking this away will take away an opportunity for many students. As a playwright, an important part of your resume is having your play be produced. There are many spaces in the building that are being underutilized. The school does not pay out of pocket to put on these shows as rights to the script are freely given in exchange for the experience. These shows are always in high demand and sell out very quickly. Please sign this petition with us to secure the second spot for the Playwriting Senior Showcase.
Playwrights are important. New work is important.
