Change Plano ISD's Conflicting Prom and Graduation Times

Change Plano ISD's Conflicting Prom and Graduation Times
Why this petition matters

Ask any high school graduate what their favorite memory of high school is. Chances are, its PROM. Certainly, all high school students deserve this celebration and memory.
Without a doubt, 2020, and still the beginning of 2021, have been exceedingly difficult. The entire community, but especially students and teachers, have suffered through learning countless forms of new technology: Kami, Google Meets, Zoom, NearPod, HonorLock, EdPuzzles, AP Classroom, and so many more. The class of 2020 had these struggles during the end of their final year in high school. Unfortunately, prom was not an option for them because of the rapidly evolving crisis.
Luckily for the class of 2021, we had time to adjust to the circumstances. But even then, our school year was far from normal. We didn't get the Senior Year we were promised at the start of our academic journeys. Prom was the one thing we had left to give us a sense of normalcy, but now, we are being stripped of that ability.
Plano ISD has arranged the prom and graduation dates to conflict with its own high schools. For example, Plano Senior's graduation is during Plano West's prom. Friendships and community go beyond campus grounds and school affiliation. We want to be there and support each other during such memorable moments. The conflicting schedules leave students with deciding between friend's graduations and their own proms. For couples that go to different schools, this would mean they are unable to go to each other's prom. Can you imagine spending the last big dance of your high-school career alone and without that special someone?
This petition will grab the attention of the Plano ISD administration to make a change to resolve this conflict. We suggest moving ALL the prom dates to before or after ALL the graduations.
Thank you for your time. We look forward to this wonderful celebration.
