Love, not Hate!
Feb 6, 2018 — Last Friday, the students organized a campus-wide walkout and rally to promote love throughout the student body and campus. More than 100 students showed up to the walkout to demonstrate their acceptance for the whole student body.
Yesterday, the three students who were guilty of the messages returned to class. At this point, it seems as though administrators have already moved past the issue. Change begins with US, and we need to make sure sexual orientation is included in the section of the PISD Student/Parent Policy guide under which students cannot be discriminated against or harassed.
There is a school board meeting today, Tuesday, the 6th of February, at 6:00PM (the closed session will begin at 6:00PM, while the regular meeting, open to the public, will begin at 7:00PM). It will be taking place at the Plano ISD Administration Building (Board Room), 2700 W. 15th Street, Plano, Texas, 75025.
Board meetings are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
For this meeting, District Spokeswoman Lesley Range-Stanton stated that the cyberbullying clause will be looked at and updated in accordance to Texas state law, however, this is NOT the cause of discrimination! Please send emails to your representatives (Lesley Range-Stanton can be contacted here: firstname.lastname@example.org, and the Superintendent's office can be contacted here (469) 752-8122 or send an e-mail to Denise.Gillespie@pisd.edu) to voice your support to include sexual orientation in PISD Policy. Or better yet, show up!
