Classic Families Against a Microbrewery Neighbor

As families with minor children that are on the gymnastics team of Classic Gymnastics, we strongly oppose Turning Point Beer's request for a variance in the current City of Bedford Code of Ordinances, allowing this microbrewery to become our neighbor. Our children attend classes at Classic Gymnastics 2-4 times per week and having a neighboring business such as this would not be in the best interest of our children. Classic Gymnastics also has an enrollment of 200 students, ages 2-18, that attend classes as well as their families. Many of us have been patronizing Classic Gymnastics since it opened 15 years ago.
Having Turning Point Beer as a neighbor would increase the traffic in the Stonegate Shopping Center. While the landlord has presented this as a potential positive impact on Classic Gymnastics, we do not view this in a positive light, given the nature of the business. Turning Point Beer's application for City Code variance states "This location would be used for the manufacturing of beer under a brew hub permit and the ability to sale, for on and off premise consumption under a Wine and Beer Retailers Permit." Consumption of alcohol on the premises and even trucking in this pedestrian-rich environment could be detrimental to our patrons and families.
We understand the position of the landlord, wanting to have the properties in Stonegate Shopping Center rented. This potential tenant/neighbor, Turning Point Beer, however, is not representative of the businesses we have come to know and appreciate in the City of Bedford. We also do not believe that this business supports the City of Bedford's Comprehensive Land Use Plan of September 2010. This plan states that statutes are put into effect that will "...secure safety from fire, panic, or other dangers;" and "... promote health and the general welfare..." of the persons in the City of Bedford.
For these reasons, we, therefore, submit this petition to you in strong opposition to a variance or change in the ordinance by Turning Point Beer in the Stonegate Crossing Center.
