Daniel Peake started this petition to Durham County Council

Summary: Petition to get Durham County Council to enforce big building companies to install a public access defibrillator (AED) on every new-build estate.

-----------------------

The average cost of a public access defibrillator is £2,000.
The value of someone's life?...Priceless.

According to the Office for National Statistics (2018), the UK population in mid-2017 was 66 million - it's largest ever. The UK population is projected to continue growing, reaching almost 73 million by 2041!

As we are all aware, there is a continuous increasing strain on resources in the NHS, with the ageing population; the decrease in GP surgeries and operating hours; and an increase in local population.

Each week we see new housing developments cropping up on any spare piece of land big enough to cram a few houses on; contrary to this is the struggle for resources and availability of the NHS and Ambulance Services.

It is my goal, to ask local government/council to enforce a new rule on big building firms (such as Gentoo, Persimmons, Taylor Wimpey, Bellway etc.). As part of the conditions of a planning request to build new plots on any site - the builder should in return provide one public access defibrillator on the estate that can be accessed by any member of the public.

Defibrillators Save lives! They are:

Small and lightweight – Defibrillators deliver an effective shock from a small package. They are lightweight, compact and durable, making them easy to carry and transport

Easy operation – It’s easy to learn how to use a defibrillator machine properly and start saving lives. A simple course can equip you with all the knowledge you need
Best odds lifesaver – Defibrillation is the only method for reverting lethal cardiac arrest. If applied within the first minute defibrillation has a 70% survival rate and your probability of success decreases 10% with every minute lost. Act fast!
