Shut Down The Auburn Shelter, Re-Group, Build Consensus, Put Community Safety First

It is undeniable that the Right Hand of Auburn "Temporary" Homeless Shelter has been one failure after another.  From start to now, no one can seriously defend the process, management and results of this facility.  Most all signing this petition request are compassionate, want to help our neighbors in need that are receptive to a helping hand, but the way it has been handled is completely wrong, and extremely dangerous. Please put community safety first, housing this "High Risk" Facility next to Schools, Day Care Centers and Family Housing is just so wrong, then it goes from there.

Highlights of Failures include everything from location, budgeting to management.  Recent allegations, accusations, reports and testimonials show there are huge problems involving staff, and residents. It is understood that an internal investigation is supposedly looking at charges of drug use, theft, sexual Impropiriety, assaults and more (the BOS should be instigating one too).  In addition,  there are allegations of cover-ups, as well as possible facilitating and enabling of known offenses, both by shelter operators and others involved in the operation of the shelter.

Further there is the huge increase in crime at or near the shelter; from minor drug and alcohol offenses to arrests for violent crimes, inclding those of convicted sex offenders and other known criminals.   The fact that the local MAC, Placer County Planning agencies and others have been completely ignored or discredited adds to the frustrations of the community, and highlights the problems in the process.

The foregoing are just highlights -

We ask that both the Board of Supervisors AND Right Hand of Auburn acknowledge the failures,  shut it down & help the community return to some some level of "pre-shelter" normalcy - and work WITH the local community, build consensus and respect and lets get this right.  It is what it is, mistakes happen but we can move forward and come up with solutions that garner consensus, and will help provide for our neighbors in need, without artificially increasing populations of transients & increasing safety risks.
