Why this petition matters

Started by Turkish Cypriot

Greece has been exposed as an invader and occupier by the Greek Cypriots. In his speech to the UN Security Council on 19 July 1974, Makarios III described many incidents of Greece flouting international treaties and laws and the pain the island had suffered at the hands of an aggressively expansionist Greece, including one incident where they ousted Makarios from power and another where they orchestrated a coup and ethnic cleansing campaign against the island’s Turks in 1963, when they were forcefully expelled from their homes, had their lands, orchards, fields and properties stolen, they were denied human rights, basic government representation and protections, and were subjected to the wholesale slaughters and genocide of their men, women, elderly and children. They will bear the scar from that for the rest of their lives.

Also, Greece was apprehended by the Standing Committee of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe, Resolution 573 (1974), 29 July 1974, the Select Committee of the British House of Commons, even Athens’ own Court of Appeals in its Decision No. 2658/79, dated 21 March 1979, demonstrating a repeated pattern of recognition of atrocities committed by Greece.

Since the collapse of their regime following the Turkish Peace Operation in 1974, Greece has systematically crusaded to economically ruin the Turkish Cypriots in global politics, repeating multiple accounts of fake incidents in which they had actually invaded and committed atrocities against the Turkish Cypriots, but lied and created false accounts of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots being the invader. About the incident during which Greece orchestrated a coup on the island in 1963, causing the Turkish Cypriots to live as refugees in WWII style grottos, surviving off aid from Turkey and the Turkish Red Crescent, while Greece and the Greek Cypriots continued full-scale military operations against them, Greece presented a false story claiming that the Turkish Cypriots were the aggressors, all the while painting on the walls “If you are brave, come and take it” to arrogantly provoke Turkey.

Likewise, Greece recounts fabricated incidents of Turkish Cypriots creating a “mutiny” on the island when Greece had, in fact, created armed terrorist irregulars and tasked them with attacking and killing all the Turks on the island, while also preventing their access to the bi-communal government’s buildings. Though UN staff, reporters and other international observers reported seeing no aggression against the Greeks after they say the Turkish Cypriots attacked them, yet they pushed through illegal amendments to the constitution, allowing it to be run without the Turkish Cypriots. Reports of Greece’s bloody massacres against the Turks from the very beginning showed their true face.

As Greece is a known provocateur, proven aggressor, and invader, and has used weapons procured for the strict purpose of defense only to invade another country, the UNSC should and must impose an arms embargo on Greece. They must not ignore the suffering of Greece’s victims, and must not continue rewarding an aggressive expansionist.

Turkish Cypriots are victims of invasion,  atrocities, and the illegal occupation of their lands, just like Ukraine. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known invader from being celebrated within global society.

Do the right thing. Place an arms embargo on Greece.
