Kumar Ashish started this petition to Piyush Goyal (Union Minister for Railways) and

Indian Railways had provided excellent facilities for everyone in recent past(ignoring the delays). But there are some issues that they still need to address. The most important among them is related to the facilities for the specially abled and senior citizens. Though the coaches are separated for them, they are mostly crowded by general passengers and many even don't have that ettiquete to even offer a seat to them.

But the real issue I want to point out is different. I am always worried about the enterance doors and about the stairs on the door. The coaches for specially abled don't have any extra modification that will help them in any way. The platforms at some places are too low which makes it difficult for them to climb those high stairs. The upper berths are almost not accessible to them. Visually impaired people too, suffer in many cases mainly because of ignorance that people show. Even the doors of the reserved coaches are sometimes closed from inside which causes troubles for them.

So I want to recommend some changes.

● It should be ordered strictly that the height of platforms should be parallel to the trains which will prevent any accidents and also will help specially abled citizens. There should be a foldable ramp/stage which can be unfolded whenever train stops at any platform and it can be folded back. Or an attendant should me made available at such coaches to help them.

● The berths should have the mechanism that they can be lowered and then raised again using a lever or a mechanism which which can work on hydraulics.

● The doors are too narrow for densely populated nation like India. It is the most important modification that should be carried out first.

● There is a case in which a blind candidate was not able to attend his M.phil exams because the doors were locked from inside by the passengers (link :- https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&cd=&ved=0ahUKEwjur-TWl-_gAhUHYo8KHZeJCzMQzPwBCAM&url=https%3A%2F%2Fm.economictimes.com%2Fnews%2Fpolitics-and-nation%2Fcoaches-for-disabled-placed-at-end-of-trains-not-justified-high-court%2Farticleshow%2F62024619.cms&psig=AOvVaw1qJkngfxdcXT72M-AKccjv&ust=1552019059011028 ) and he cannot board the train for the same reason. This is something the citizens have to be wary of. Also the Railways should increase the no. Of coaches for specially abled and strict laws should be made on it.

So as a responsible citizen I request the Railways to look into this important matter as it will give equal rights to all the citizens whether specially abled or not, everyone should enjoy equal rights  and right to travel through railways should also be equal for them.
