Stacie Rameas-Michael started this petition to Pittsburgh Public Schools and Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers

The Pittsburgh Public Schools Administration and the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, claim to value parent input.  However, despite many parents and students speaking at public hearings, we have been ignored.

We, the undersigned call on the Pittsburgh Board of Education and the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers to allow ALL students to report back to school in person on April 6th, as was originally announced. All students who choose to return in person should be allowed to return to school; to get a brick and mortar education not a substandard remote education that they have endured for over a year.

Our children need to return to school. Not just for academics but socialization, relationships, and support. Each student deserves to come back if they want to. PPS has failed our youth and are not considering the social and emotional toll this year has had on ALL learners - those progressing and those who are not.. Every student is at RISK!

Further, we demand full disclosure as to the district’s intent as well as the teacher’s intent to return to school in the fall. Throughout this school year the district has announced dates to return to school only to have those dates pushed back.  Now that they can no longer push the date back, phases are introduced.  According to this plan, the district estimates  4,786 students will return to school on April 6, with another 5,215 returning 20 days later on April 26.  For the remaining 10,221 students assigned to groups 1 and 2 there is NO PLANNED DATE TO RETURN TO SCHOOL. This is unacceptable.

We, the parents of PPS students, demand that the district act swiftly to bring ALL students back on April 6 and clearly communicate their plans for the 2021-2022 school year.  We will not sit out another school year.
