We currently use approximately 85 million plastic bags every single year in Pittsburgh alone! That is 234,000 a day. These bags take too much of our valuable resources to manufacture and transport. If not sent to a landfill after their single use, these plastic bags often end up littering our streets, polluting our water system, and endangering wildlife. Making the problem worse, these bags can take centuries to decompose. The continued use of plastic bags will result in ongoing costs to our businesses and environment. Pittsburgh must take the lead to create a cleaner and healthier future for our community by removing plastic bags.
