We the students of Pasadena Independent School District are requesting permission to be allowed to use backpacks and/or lockers to hold our supplies needed for the classroom. We would not ask if we really didn’t need them. I understand that you have discussed the matter once before but we plead that you may reconsider your choice in the matter. Students should be able to carry their backpacks to and from every class. There are many benefits of having all school materials in one place handy at all moments. We get that there are issues concerning concealed weapons but keep in mind that 95% of students wouldn't have something like that. Currently, students have to either carry every single notebook, binder, and folder to all six classes or leave their stuff in the classroom unable to work at home. We have to carry our things to the bathroom with us and papers fall out of our folders and binders. In some cases schools allow students to use lockers but with a 5 minute passing periods, it makes it extremely difficult to get your things and use the restroom. If backpacks were allowed to be carried throughout the school day, it would save time for students, as well as making teachers happy by making it easier for students to make it to class on time. Having different sets of materials for every class makes it to where students often misplace something in a different folder or leave something behind in another class. As a person that's been pushed around and physically bullied with objects slapped out of my hands, it's difficult not having a backpack. It makes it easier to bully someone and make them late to class.
