Seems simple enough right?  It's not.  Here's the scenario:  Kid goes to school.  He/she gets bit by mosquitoes, ants, spiders or whatever else on the playground.  Kid starts crying and/or scratching because of the bites.  He goes to the nurse.  The school calls the parents and asks them to either go to their doctor and get a note, a prescription, and a new unopened tube of insect relief, or their kid will have to suffer.

This simply isn't ok and completely irresponsible.... especially when it's so easy to fix.  Here are the options I am proposing:

Option 1 - Allow school nurses to receive a verbal or written approval from a parent each time the need arises, and then apply the over the counter treatment in accordance with directions (only after parent approval).

Option 2 - Change the annual doctor's form to include an approval statement from the physician stating the following:  "This student has been approved to receive over the counter itch relief from the school's nurse if deemed necessary and approved by the student's parent/guardian."

Come on guys... sign this and spread it so we can fix yet another long drawn out, unnecessary issue in our kid's schools.  This one should just be common sense.
