It has been a long known fact that school dress codes are outdated and sexist, yet we continue to implement them. Pike Road School’s dress code is no different. As the seasons change and start to warm up I have listened to my daughter and her friends struggle to find shorts that meet the 4 inch above the knee requirements. The only option available is biker shorts which violate the leggings and tight clothes portion of the dress code. My daughter and her best friend have decided to start a petition to change the dress code by collecting signatures from fellow students. As a proud mom who is also frustrated with the lack of clothing options that allow my girl to be comfortable at school, I have created this online petition for parents to sign. Please support our girls comfort and education. They should not be pulled from class for this sexist outdated regulation that only punishes our girls. They deserve an equal right to an education and as parents, we need to demand it. Pike Road Schools has recently announced to the intermediate school that boys can’t roll their shorts up or they will violate dress code. My girl can’t wear shorts at all without violating the dress code unless she is in men’s clothing. Please help my daughter and her friends be treated as equals!
