In 2019 the PUSD School Board passed a resolution giving Piedmont Grandparents a priority in applying their out-of-district grandchildren to Piedmont schools. The Grandparent’s priority was initially passed by the School Board because there was a marked decline in enrollment in PUSD. Recent reports shared by the Superintendent (1/27/2021) are showing continuing decline in enrollment over the next several years. The School Board is threatening to remove or move down in priority Piedmont Grandparents, citing a lack of diversity amongst the grandchildren. Data provided by the Superintendent’s Office contradicts this notion, and shows that this groups does, in fact, represent a diverse cross-section of people. Piedmont residents in this group have provided consistent and steady support to PUSD through time, tax dollars, donations and support of bond measures over the course of many years. We, the undersigned, represent Piedmont residents who are advocating to keep the Grandparent’s priority (Priority #8) for Inter-District Transfers or to raise the priority of Grandparents to a higher category. Piedmont residents want their grandchildren to maintain a priority in consideration for enrollment to PUSD.
