Students of the Physics Department at East Carolina University (ECU) are suffering from the "active learning" ("flipped learning") structure that many professors at ECU have adapted. This structure includes students figuring out how to solve problems on their own. This structure has been successful in many universities; however, students at ECU find it problematic because it is not enforced in a correct manner.

Students end up solving worksheets, doing problems, reading the textbook, and finishing all assigned homework before coming to class, and then lectures would be quite short (simply being an introduction). Afterward, students are given worksheets that they must use the rest of the class to figure out. Student's grades are suffering and will continue to suffer.

The end of the semester is approaching and most students have no clear understanding of the course. This is the foundation for many courses to come, and with a faulty foundation, learning structures collapse. Thus, we, the students of physics at ECU, implore that the learning structure is improved and executed in a better manner so that we receive a better education than the one currently offered.
