Save the Wichita Falls Family Medicine Residency Program (WFFMRP)

More than 8,000 citizens will lose their primary care physician creating a massive crisis for the city of Wichita Falls. Not only will this create a problem for many in our community with regard to the availability of healthcare, it will force those who use the residency clinic as their primary care to the ER for all manners of issues. This would result in increased ER wait times, reduced access to hospital beds, and create a financial strain on the hospital as the residents see a very high percentage of patients without adequate insurance or funds.
The closure of WFFMRP will also create the loss of approximately 100 jobs in the area immediately. The long-term employment loss for healthcare professionals is unimaginable.
Without a residency program, the city loses it's most effective recruiting tool in bringing new physicians to the area. Wichita Falls has more than 40 doctors in the area who completed the WFFMRP and 7 out of the 8 graduating physicians from the current class intend to stay in the area.
The residency program allows for United Regional to be designated as teaching hospital; without this WFFMRP, the designation and associated funds are lost.
There are more concerns but, this is the long and short of it.
