Revive: Law of Death Penalty in the Philippines

This petition had 46 supporters

Philippine is a third world country, it is known for being a country with high criminal rating. During Marcos' administration, heinous crimes were punishable by death as a result, the number of crimes dwindled. He implemented the death penalty because he thinks this law will help the people in the country, but it was abolished in the year of 1987 Constitution. Philippines became the first Asian country to abolish the death penalty for all heinous crimes. Time changes, the newly-elected President Rodrigo Duterte wants to bring back the Law of Death Penalty because number of crimes are continuously increasing and he believes what Former President Marcos believes, as many say, they have both the same intention for our country. There are many arguments for and against the death penalty. Some says it deters crime and reduce prison population while others say it’s against the teachings of the Bible.

Death Penalty is like “an eye for an eye”. Death Penalty helps curtail future murders and because of this we can save more lives. If Death Penalty exists, repeat murders are eliminated and future murders are deterred. Just imagine it; we will live in a just society. If Death Penalty wouldn’t be issued now, then when? When there are more criminals hiding? It is said that every minute, there is a chance that an innocent man could get murdered. We must put a stop to it.
