Pisay students and teachers, although belonging to a science high school that seems prestigious to the general society, have been struggling for the school year 20-21. In the, yet again, general society point-of-view, one would think, "aren't they privileged scholars? Why complain about school requirements when we're also struggling the same way? Can't they just keep quiet?"
Well, here's why that kind of view is wrong.
First of all, why would #PisayGiveUsABreak trend in the first place? The very existence of this hashtag proves that students (and even teachers who recognize it) are struggling with the number of requirements given by the school's system.
Second, as a Pisay Scholar as well, I recognize the struggles these people face. I am going through the same phase and I realize how much of a burden it is. Imagine this—three exams this week, extra requirements that need to be submitted that were supposed to be for last week, plus all the other backlogged requirements. Also, based on other people's screenshots, I've learned that we weren't even given a holiday break. (Edit: based on intel, there is a holiday break but it's too short to help us take a decent rest.)
(Please take note that I'm not blaming teachers—they are facing the same struggle as well.)
Third, although online classes seem to have more "advantages" for us (i.e. less travel expense, etc.), IT ISN'T. Instead of being able to learn and apply knowledge to our daily life, we were made into requirement-completing robots that don't even have time to understand the lessons. Instead, we had to resort to finishing the requirements, forgetting what we actually learn about them.
Fourth, not everyone has the privilege to learn properly at home. Not everyone has stable WiFi. Not everyone has a decent gadget for the workload. Being in a science high school doesn't mean you have all the requirements you need to study at home.
Fifth, not everyone can adapt quickly to this kind of environment. These people, just like me, may already be drained just by staring at their to-do list and piles of requirements sitting on the table.
So, dearest PSHS System, we only have one request. Please, GIVE US A BREAK. This includes students, teachers, and everyone who desperately needs time to relax, unwind, and destress from this busy world.
Signing this petition means you agree that all of us need a hiatus from these mentally-draining requirements. I hope that everyone would unite for a better learning environment and save our mental health capacities. Good luck, and always remember that health comes first.
