This petition aims to promote “mental wellbeing” or a healthy mental health to students through the establishment of mental health services on school guidance centers. It is expected that guidance counselors or life mentors should conduct tests regarding the mental health of the students, conduct counseling, listen to the student's concern and act a positive support. Within these, all information about the student should be kept confidential.

Mental Health refers to our cognitive, behavioral and emotional well-being, it is about how we think, feel and behave. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. This is important to every stage of our life as it also includes a person’s ability to enjoy life, to attain balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience (mentalhealth.gov & medicalnewstoday,n.d.).

In the Philippine setting, this topic is being underestimated as mental health is becoming a common issue nowadays, especially to the youth. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), 10%-15% Filipino children, ages 5-15 years old suffer from mental health problems.

Through this petition, we would like to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the students, enable them to manage emerging mental health issues as to support the psychological well-being of students as this is an important part of academic success and retention.
