Ditch trans fat to pitch lower cases of heart attacks

According to the American Heart Association,  "artificial trans fats (or trans fatty acids) are created in an industrial process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid." Additionally, artificial trans fats are used by most fast food companies as it cuts the cost of supply because it can be used over and over for at least 24-36 hours without having to be replaced. Trans fats are commonly found in the oil used for deep frying, especially that of french fries, a common greasy food served in fast food restaurants. Furthermore, the American Heart Association has also identified artificial trans fats as fats that increase the amount of bad cholesterol in the body, hence also increasing the susceptibility to lifestyle diseases such as stroke or even various heart diseases

Moving forward, the Department of Health of the Philippines identified lifestyle-related cardiovascular disease as one of the leading causes of mortality in the Philippines hence, in this light, this petition aims to decrease the number of reported cases of mortality due to cardiovascular-related diseases by addressing the concern of Filipinos ingesting too much trans fats from fast food restaurants by promoting an advocacy on boycotting products high on trans fats such as french fries, burgers, and fried chicken, and to encourage the Filipinos to live a healthy lifestyle. In line with this, this petition also aims to cancel the use of trans fat oil in fast food chains and instead use healthier alternatives such as canola oil, to as well help fast food chains promote the health of the population.
