There are so many issues with this campus. The main one that needs to be addressed is sexual assault. It happens every year, all the time, and it mainly ramps up in the fall semester according to the Women and Gender Studies webpage on CU Boulder's website. It is not enough to just hold students accountable and send them on their way while people come on our campus and do not even know that the party they attended last weekend was the same place they were assaulted. We are on a college campus and this campus needs education.

The demand we want to make is clear. We need mandatory consent education and not just education that is required to be done by affiliated fraternities at our school. Everyone is not involved with Greek Life and the entire school could benefit from education about consent. This is not something that needs to occur once every academic year or once a semester, we need it every semester. We need students to know how their intimate interactions can be done safely and without hurting others.

We are not asking for much. In fact, this is the bare minimum. There will be actions that are out of our control. There will be more fraternities, there will be more drugging, and there will be more court cases, but as an institution this large, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of our students so that we can focus on our education. Our education is compromised when our safety is ignored. If we can educate our entire school about consent and how to have sexual encounters that all parties involved are willing to participate in, we should see a significant decrease in assault cases and we can prioritize the safety of students at our university. Thank you.
