The School District of Philadelphia has begun using the playground at the former Samuel Powel Elementary School at 3501 - 15 Powelton Avenue for parking.  This lot is zoned RSA-3 and the Philadelphia Zoning Code would require a variance for use of this space as parking.  Furthermore, the lighting, greening, drainage, setback and other requirements of a parking lot are not met by this space.

We the undersigned residents of Powelton Village oppose this use of the school property and demand that the City enforce the Zoning Code! Now that Powel Elementary has moved to a new building we also ask that the School District develop a plan for the future use of this site with the Powelton Village Civic Association that includes an interim use plan.
