The city of Philadelphia was supposed to start easing out of plastic on December 1st, they have pushed the date to April 1st and probably will continue to do so. We need to fix this problem! There is so much plastic and trash added to the ocean every year, that some scientists say by 2050 more of our ocean will be trash than animals. That is not okay, marine life is not only incredible to look at, but many rely on it for food and jobs. If we let trash take over our oceans so many will not have enough to support their families. Changing the material of our bags will help save the oceans. With the US having some recycling problems, we shouldn't just add plastic while figuring out what to do. By using paper and reusable bags instead of plastic bags, if it ends up in the ocean, eventually it will biodegrade, unlike plastic which will stay there forever. For the past 25 years, we have created islands of trash in the ocean, and unless we plan to stop it, they will continue to grow. Even though I am only a kid I know that we need to use our voice in any way possible. I love the oceans and all the animals that live in them, to grow up watching it be destroyed and people who don't change is devastating. Please add your name to the list, so I can bring it to my cities leadership and get the process of changing our bags started!
