Permanent Housing for Philly's Homeless

Permanent Housing for Philly's Homeless
Workers Revolutionary Collective and Occupy PHA have supported unhoused residents of Philadelphia in protesting for permanent housing demands in the form of occupying encampmentsl ocated at 22nd & Benjamin Franklin Parkway, as well as the Public Housing Authority headquarters on Ridge Avenue.
After seizing private homes through eminent domain the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) constructed a 45 million dollar Headquarters in the middle of poor residential North Philadelphia Neighborhood. PHA has auctioned over 500 properties to private developers since then and they have 1000’s of vacant viable homes across the city yet they are processing housing applications from 2010. Despite being vacant the properties are being supported by tax dollars yet are tax exempt from supporting the community.
Residents of the encampment know that the city and PHA are intentionally neglecting their needs and misusing federal tax dollars that should be used for housing. They have made clear, actionable collective demands & are calling on their peers & community members to show support & solidarity.
