Allow State PHEAA Grants for Online Students

The current eligibility requirements for a college student to receive and be awarded a PHEAA grant is outdated. PHEAA and many universities have the policy that a student must attend at least 50% of classes in a physical classroom in order to be eligible for PA state grant money. Why should we be penalized because of schedule conflicts or other priorities that do not permit us to have to be in the classroom at a particular time on a particular day. I myself work two jobs and take care of a household, online classes are much more convenient for me with time flexibility. This an injustice to online learners who put in just as much, if not more, effort to obtain higher education. Many of these students are generally already struggling financially and may be returning students (working adults, parents, immobile students). Some colleges do offer discounted tuition for online courses, but taking on tens of thousands in loan debt is often the only answer left.I personally work two jobs and cannot commit to being in a classroom at a certain time or day. I have had nothing but A's and B's in my online classes and if anything it is harder doing it online. You don't have the ability to ask a question in person or have something repeated in a better way to understand. Please sign this petition to have this presented to our government to have this changed.
