WA Pharmacist started this petition to Pharmacy Registration Board of Western Australia and

It was recently published in the Sydney Morning Herald that retail workers are swapping name tags to avoid harassment.

Pharmacists in WA also face harassment from customers and fall victim to it more easily because the Pharmacy Registration Board of Western Australia have made it a legal requirement for pharmacists to have their full legal name on display for the public.

Why is this?

The apparent need is so the customer knows who is in charge for the day in case of any complaints or follow up of duty of care is required.

Yet in the emergency room, you do not see the full name of the nursing staff, registrar doctors or consultant on a board for the public. Would it not also serve the best interest of the public to know for the same reasons?

Retail outlets, nail salons and other health care clinics do not have the same requirement to list the full name of the manager on duty on a public sign.

Why are pharmacists in WA treated with this level of scrutiny?

Pharmacists often have to make difficult decisions and brunt aggressive retaliations from customers when they are not supplying a medicine to a customer.

Having our full legal name on public display has resulted in pharmacists being victim of stalking online and in some cases, stalking of their residential address. Forcing pharmacists to display their full legal name puts their safety on the line.

Help WA Pharmacists preserve their full name as part of their rights of privacy and on a need to know basis. If there is a complaint or follow up to be had, the customer can request through legal channels to obtain it as with any other public service industry.

By signing the petition, you are supporting the request to change the legislation set by the Pharmacy Board of Western Australia and the Quality Care Pharmacy Program to remove the requirement for a pharmacist on duty to display their full legal name to the public.
