Cobb County Commissioners want to ban the retail sale of dogs and cats in Cobb.

Here’s what’s in the code amendments:

They want you to buy your pets from a rescue or shelter ONLY.  Here’s what the code amendment says, "No pet store shall sell, deliver, offer for sale, barter, auction, give away, or otherwise transfer dogs or cats".  If adopted, this means that you can only go to a rescue or shelter or the personal home of a small breeder you may not know (risking your safety) to adopt a dog or cat.  While we believe that rescue and shelter adoptions are awesome, we also believe that consumers’ right to choose where they adopt their dogs and cats.  In the State of Georgia, pet stores are regulated by federal and state law, inspected by the USDA, and must be in compliance with state and federal laws in order to continue operating.  More specifically, the only pet store in Cobb County is Petland Kennesaw.  At Petland Kennesaw we support our customers during and after the adoption of their new pet.  Many of our customers are first time pet owners and when they adopt from our store, they get 24-hr access to online training and support;  financial assistance if their dog falls ill within the first 14 days and/or one year of purchase; detailed information/education on the various breeds so they can select the best dog for their families; and many more services.  Please sign your name to tell Cobb County Commissioners to withdraw the proposed code amendments.

The Attorney General of the State of Georgia says that these types of bans are unlawful.  If adopted, Cobb County would have unlawful code amendments; put its only pet store out of business; and run the risk of lawsuits. The would likely cost Cobb County residents a lot of taxpayers money.  Tell Cobb County Commissioners to follow the law. Please sign your name to tell Cobb County Commissioners to withdraw the proposed code amendments.
