Help Give Demetrius Walton a Second Chance at Life

My name is Demetrius Walton and I have served over 16 years of a life without the possibility of parole sentence for murder and robbery. When I was 22 years of age, a life was taken, which I am deeply remorseful for and I take full responsibility for my actions. This is something I will live with for the rest of my life.
Over the last 16 years I have matured and made many improvements in my life to become a better person. Education and self- development has helped me in my transition. I have earned a G.E.D. as well as 2 Associate in Arts degrees. I've tutored 13 men in earning their G.E.D's and I mentored 17 more in earning their AA degrees.
In addition to my educational achievements, I have been involved in many self-help programs. Programs such as Victims Offender Education Group, Alternatives to Violence Project, Fatherhood Focus, Criminal & Gang Members Anonymous, Houses of Healing and a few programs under the Paving The Way Foundation, such as Constructive Communication, Anger Management, Relationship Building and Conflict Resolution. I was the chairman of an ILTAG group that donated over $6000 to Children Hospitals and Children of Incarcerated Parents.
In completing many of these programs, I have grown to understand that my actions are unforgivable and that I could never take away the pain that I have caused, but what I can do and have done is to make significant changes in my way of thinking, in my character, and in my life to be sure that my actions are never repeated.
Since becoming incarcerated I have maintained family support and I became a man of God. Please allow me to show that I am no longer the immature selfish 22 year old person I used to be but instead a 39 year old man who has gained insight, remorse and responsibility.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and showing your support in giving me a second chance.
