Ariel Boyer started this petition to Valerie Plante, the Mayor of Montreal

We, the undersigned residents of the City of Montreal, are for the increase in funding and advertisement of the several community gardens on the island of Montreal which benefit locals and lower greenhouse gases by removing the use of industrialized machines and limiting the distance travelled from the ground to your home. This is important because those heavy machines ruin the good soil needed to grow produce while also releasing a large amount of cardon dioxide into the air. We call on the Mayor of Montreal to:

1.     Help the organizers with funding
2.     Fund more community gardens
3.     Increase the visibility and advertisement to attract more locals

Community gardens attract people of all ages from all cities to volunteer in the planting process or to buy fresh local produce. These community gardens allow citizens to access fresh local produce while also helping their mental and physical health. Community gardens also have a huge impact on the environment, they promote a more sustainable practice of agriculture as well as reduce food waste and high costs. Sustainable practices increase people’s health while also reducing water runoff, pesticide use which affects climate change, pollution, etc. Promoting community gardens in cities around Montreal will entice people to learn, volunteer and/or donate.
