We, the undersigned, as;        Residents of Canada

                                                Residents of the Province of Ontario

                                                Residents of the Electoral District of Sault Ste Marie

draw the attention of the House to the following;

                                               Whereas; A three-year plea by the City of Sault Ste. Marie and its health-care partners, who have repeatedly asked the province to fund a Level III Withdrawal Management Facility for the community, remains unanswered.

                                                Whereas; Opioid addiction numbers locally are higher than that of the Northeast Local Health Integration Network and the province. Statistics show Ontario’s death numbers attributed to opioids are listed at 6.2 while Algoma’s are 12.2 per 100,000. Emergency responders and Sault Area Hospital have indicated they’re responding to more calls for assistance as a result of the opioid crisis.

                                                Whereas;  The current drug supply in Sault Ste Marie is laced with poison and has been responsible for an extensive surge of fatal overdoses.

Therefore, we as petitioners, call upon Parliament to; fund a Level III Withdrawal Management Facility for the community, as expeditiously as possible, to cease accidental deaths in Sault Ste Marie.
