PETITION TO THE COMMISSIONER OF BASEBALL - BUD SELIG to require Mr. Angelos to sell the Baltimore Orioles
This petition had 48 supporters
In accordance with the baseball bylaws that allow the Commissioner to invoke the “in the best interest of baseball clause,” we request that Bud Selig should require Mr. Angelos to sell the Baltimore Orioles.
For the following reasons:
14 consecutive years of losing baseball
The forced resignation of people such as John Miller (best announcer in baseball), wonderful baseball executives such as Pat Gillick, Frank Wren, and outstanding managers such as Davey Johnson
Lack of interest in baseball as evidenced by the declining attendance throughout the years
Mr. Angelos’ refusal to spend money on good free agents who could help the team to perform better
Impact of the Orioles’ miserable performance record in the last 16 years on the downtown merchants who are losing money and forced to go out of business.
If my request as stated in the petition is ignored by the Commissioner, I will ask my 2 United States Senators, Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, along with my Congressman, John Sarbanes, to introduce legislation in Congress that would eliminate baseball’s special exemption from anti-trust laws.
