When the city's letter was brought to our attention just over a month ago, we weren't sure how this parking issue would turn out. We didn't know how to approach this, we didn't know if they would listen to us, and we didn't know where students would park. But when we started this petition, your overwhelming support surprised us, encouraged us, and motivated us. It became clear that the UMD community was not for this and that your voices would not be ignored. Fighting this increase in "front-lawn" parking enforcement has been a top priority for the UMD Student Association over the past month. We have been in contact with the City of Duluth, the Police Department, the Landlord's Association, city councilors, Mayor Larson and Chancellor Black among others. After lots of work and overwhelming support from you, we are pleased to announce that the City of Duluth has announced they will be delaying this action until June 1st 2017! We could not have done this without you. This delay will give us more time to work with the city and property owners to find other creative solutions for Duluth's parking woes. We want to thank everyone who signed the petition. This includes, current students, alumni, parents, community members and even prospective students. As your student government and the official voice of the student body, it is our pleasure to serve you. We encourage students to continue communicating with us on issues and to work with us to solve them. We will continue to communicate with the aforementioned stakeholders and decision makers.
