Why this petition matters

Started by Brian Merlen

The only thing Purdue Pharma is known for is for committing significant felonies in our community.

Charges against Purdue Pharma include:

*Conspiracy to defraud the United States.*

*Violating federal anti-kickback.*

*Marketing opioids to doctors that it suspected of writing illegal prescriptions.*

Millions of patients were hurt by this firm when they were prescribed fraudulent meds without a medical purpose.  They had no capacity to make educated healthcare decisions with fraudulent meds!

After so much negative publicity, and hundreds of families marching in our city, I really do not understand why the controversial building is on our welcome sign.

Frankly none of us care how much money the DSSD or local politicians took from these OxyContin criminals, including this building on our cities welcome signs is an obvious mistake.  Letting these people commit these crimes in our community for so long was a mistake, and I have marched with far too many victims of the Sacklers and Purdue Pharma for this to be excusable Mayor Simmons.

That building and the crimes committed in our community (without any individuals charged) is already what most people think of when they think of our cities failures on this critical issue.  The last thing our community should ever do is put that building on a sign.  So many people have worked tireless to take the Sacklers signs down, not just in our country but internationally!  It’s appalling that this was even approved!

I expect better from Mayor Simmons and our board of reps, many of you did nothing to stop these crimes in a timely manner.  You should be building a memorial for the people killed by that firm, and I cannot honestly believe that someone thought putting the Purdue Pharma building on our cities sign was a good idea.  You should be getting narcan out into our community, and you should respect these families that had their lives destroyed by what occurred in the Purdue Pharma building.  I expect better from our leadership on this!  You couldn’t have picked a more controversial building in our city to even use!
